Oxfam is an international confederation of 20 organizations working together with partners and local communities in 65 countries around the world.

And we campaign so that the voices of the poor influence the local and global decisions that affect them. In all we do, Oxfam works with partner organizations and alongside vulnerable women and men to end the injustices that cause poverty.

Oxfam has been working in Nepal since the early 1980s undertaking various development initiatives addressing poverty and injustice faced by the population, especially women and other socially and economically excluded groups. 

Over the years, under itsSustainable Development Programme, Oxfam has worked in partnership with local civil society organisations and the government authorities and services to promote rural livelihoods, and vulnerable communities’ resilience to climatic shocks and disasters. It has also significantly contributed to empowering community people, especially women, to negotiate with people in power, influence decision making processes, claim rights and essential services to which they are entitled, demand accountability on the part of duty bearers and engage larger masses in advocacy efforts.

Since the series of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks hit Nepal in 2015, Oxfam under its Humanitarian Programme worked in in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, and Kathmandu Valley to deliver emergency relief and help the earthquake-affected families recover to normalcy.
